Some crazy voodoo has gotten up in the Church! Galatians 3 calls it a spell, a bewitching, a hex that is currently working and operative to the point the Church actually believes she can finish in the flesh what He began in the Spirit. The power of the Cross is the only POWER that breaks this voodoo off of us...His blood-bought Church.
The Apostle Paul warned in Galatians 3 and II Corinthians 11 that the same “voodoo magic” the devil used in the Garden to seduce Eve was now trying to seduce the people of God--the Church--to trust in their own strength and cleverness rather than full-blown dependency on Holy Spirit. This is defiling and weakening the Church today in the private realities of our daily lives.
We must determine to put away “childish things” that once helped us survive life and its pain, rejection, trauma and disappointments. To “put away” literally means to “fire them--make them unemployable.” This means we must let our coping skills, performance-based acceptance and defense mechanisms know… “we no longer need your services.” Why? Well, because we hired them...we have to fire them!
We cannot continue to live in the vows of our youth. It might be a promise we made to ourselves that no one would ever hurt or humiliate us like that ever again. But the result is walls of control, protection, people-pleasing, performance and hardness. It does not have to be this way.
The Cross of Jesus Christ has brought an end--a death--to this entire system of earning, deserving and performing. The Cross has made us new and ushered in a new way of life--receiving and maturing by allowing Holy Spirit to raise us by the deep love and protection of the Father. We really can learn to live as who we are in Christ, grow up in an inner atmosphere of love and security and experientially have life-long strongholds broken.
It’s time to “put away” childish things...and “put on” Christ--to plunge into the depths of our new nature and then rest in it. Then and only then can we truly get on with growing up into fully mature sons to the Father.
God is about to blow up the subtle veil & veneer of man's goodness so we can see its raging inferno of hostility and enmity against Him. It simmers beneath the surface...but as He turns up the heat He means to expose it in such a way that we are finally brought into deep agreement with Him about His solution. Crucify it and embrace His life as our own.
Many Christians have believed the lie that once they are delivered from their evil that the goal is to be good. We fall under the seducing power of sin to try harder, perform and generally be a decent person. Yet God has not been after well-behaved Christians. He has always wanted fully, maturing sons in the image of the Son, Jesus Christ.
We tend to settle for a changed life when God always meant for it to be an exchanged life. This salvation isn’t about going from evil to different shades of good but rather going from depraved to divine. II Peter 1:4 says we now share in the divine nature--not a self-improved, rehabilitated old nature.
The good of man fights the Life of Christ whenever it shows up. Remember when Jesus approached the Pharisees in John 8. He clearly pointed out to them the truth of the core heritage of man--the nature of hell and its father, the devil. He told them the devil had been a liar and a murderer from the beginning and they shared in his nature. They were inflamed in their self-righteous anger and were extremely combative with Jesus. Then they set out to lie about Him and plot how to murder Him. Jesus was literally the proving ground of everything He preached.
When the Apostle Paul was still Saul...he was infuriated by those who shared about the unearned, undeserved, righteousness of God through Jesus Christ. So much so that he plotted their death, gained writs from the courts to persecute and imprison them and held the coats of those who stoned Stephen. When the Life of Christ shows up...the good of man wants to kill it!
Why? Because the Life of Christ exposes the enmity and hostility of the self-nature towards God--especially the good! Self wants to produce it all on its own and be rewarded accordingly. Because God loves us and wants us in deep oneness with Him, He is currently turning up the fires that bring to the surface our controversy with God and conflict with man. This is so it can be seen for what it is and we can give up on it. Stop asking God to improve it, fix it, energize it or help it in any way. It is His enemy and honestly, it is the enemy of the new man’s ability to walk and abide in Christ.
The finished work of Jesus on the Cross puts this depraved nature--with its good and evil--to death. In resurrection He brought us into full union with Christ so we could share in His life--His nature--His faith--His love--His mind and live as sons to the Father. This is God’s perfect solution.
He's chosen you out for Himself and given you a seat at His table as a son. Welcome to the dual presence of Him...and your enemies.
It’s time to sit...rest...get comfortable in His Presence as you take your place at the Father’s table...your only hope of authenticity & authority. No more escaping, running, avoiding or resenting the fight of faith. The majority of the tension & frustration we as believers experience is because we haven’t settled some things. AW Tozer said, “Every man must choose his world.” It’s time for sons to choose the world of their Father and LEARN that world with full focus and vigorous jealousy.
Enemies begin to take their place in the corner—held in the death grip of the Cross by Holy Spirit—having to watch us flourish, grow and mature in oneness. This will enable us to make way for The God Who Is About To Arrive! This breaks your tense and agitating frustrations like nothing else. Puts me in mind of CS Lewis’ quote: “If I find in myself desires which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” Choose your world, dear friend...here we go!
